School Council – only as effective as the people who participate

The Manor Park School Council is made up of volunteer parents/guardians of students from Manor Park School. School Councils are advisory organizations, mandated by the Ministry of Education, and make recommendations to the principal and School Board when appropriate.  For more information about School Councils in the Ottawa Carleton District School Board, please see http://www.ocdsb.ca/par/sc/Pages/default.aspx.

The Manor Park council promotes the educational interests of our students and school.  Please go here for some information about the positions for both the Council and Home and School Association.

Once a month, parents and guardians meet to plan, organize and start activities to increase the educational experience of the students at our school, through input and direction provided by the principal, teachers and staff. Please see Meetings for the meeting schedule.

School council is…

Social: Joining Council offers a great opportunity to meet new people. (Parents, teachers and administrators)

Constructive: Nothing beats the rewarding feeling of seeing projects from their initiation to completion and the impact it has on the children. Our committees make good things happen.

Educational: It provides great information sharing around issues in education. Learn about: curriculum, staffing, operations and policies.

Charitable: Every year Council looks for ways to reach out to less fortunate schools in our zone and our city. Whether it is in the donation of goods or funds, social responsibility is one of Council’s important goals.

Political: Council contributes to community issues and has a role in advocating for changes in public education.

Supportive: Council is representative of our parent community and has a role in hearing their concerns and assisting or advising them on solutions and available resources.


School Council is a fantastic way to get tapped into the school community. Being an active member opens the door to countless opportunities and enrichment for our children. School Council is always hoping that more parents will share their ideas and their time to keep our great programs and commitments alive. All Parents are welcome.
