There are many opportunities to help at school - classroom parent, requests from your child’s teacher, requests from the Council.  If you can’t volunteer during school hours, you are still involved in your child’s education!  The most important thing a parent can do is read to your child or get your child to read to you.

Parents and guardians are welcome to volunteer at school. Community members who have a current/recent police check are also welcome to contribute to the school’s success.  For more details, contact the school directly or email the school council at manorparkschoolcouncil@yahoo.ca

Some of the already-organized committees of the school council where your volunteer time is needed:

Library Committee

The school’s Library Committee is a group of volunteer parents committed to improving our children’s school library.

This year we will:
1. Host a Scholastic Book Fair – December 2nd, 3rd and 4th (same time as parent-teacher interviews)
2. Shelve/organize books under the direction of the library technician
3. Create a welcoming look to the library
4. Apply for grants that support elementary school libraries

There are many ways parents can help improve the library:

  1. Commit to an hour a week to help shelve books
  2. Donate your gently used children’s books (ages 5 to 12)
  3. Attend/support the Scholastic Book Fair in December
  4. Donate a book to the library in your child’s name
  5. Donate, to the library technician, your Aeroplan Points by converting them first into a Indigo/Chapter’s gift certificate

If you require further information, please contact Tammy Moffatt, chair of the Library Committee at tmoffatt@yahoo.ca or manorparkschoolcouncil@yahoo.ca

Healthy Active School and Athletics at Manor Park

Parents at Manor Park who are concerned about childhood obesity, rising diabetes rates and poor health awareness among children have created the Healthy Active School Committee to encourage children to be more active and to practise healthy eating habits.

The committee organizes a Walking Club and a Badminton club to get children active - more volunteers are always welcome!  The committee works with the school’s nursing students to encourage students to make healthy food choices. The committee also supports the work of the school’s PALS (Playground Activity Leadership in Schools) program.

If you are interested in helping with Manor Park’s Healthy Active School committee, or have any ideas for the committee to pursue, please leave a message for the committee in the school council mailbox or email manorparkschoolcouncil@yahoo.ca - attention Health Active Schools.
