May Fair – This Saturday – May 28th!!!

Come to the 64th annual May Fair for all the fun activities!  Help support the Manor Park School Council which fundraises for the Manor Park Public School, and have a great time!

Bake a cake for the Cake Walk!  Donate Surprise jars for the games!  Donate books or gently used toys – or come to the May Fair and buy some!  Play games!  Enjoy some coffee & doughnuts early and have a BBQ lunch!

9:00am – Children’s Bike Decorating
9:30am – Children’s Bicycle Parade (starts at the Community Centre)
10:00am – May Fair Events begin:  Toy and Book Sale tables, Surprise Jars game, Cake Walk, Balloon Animals, Silent Auction, Face Painting, Inflatable Rides, Carnival Games, life-size chess set, Kub Kars, school entertainment & more!
11:00 am – BBQ opens

Understanding the Spectrum of Gender Identity and Gender Expression

This workshop is designed to engage educators, health and social service providers and communities in learning about the diversity of gender identity and gender expression.

The workshop will be focused on:

  • Understanding the difference between gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation using the LGBTTQ+ acronym
  • Historical context of gender identity and gender expression
  • Terminology of transgender and gender diverse communities (name, pronoun, gender marker, identity)
  • The spectrum of gender fluidity and gender expression
  • Social transitioning in the community
  • Current human rights protections both provincially and federally
  • Policy on preventing discrimination because of Gender Identity and Gender Expression

Beck Hood is a trans identified Trainer and Public Educator at Family Services Ottawa.  www.familyservicesottawa.org  He provides community development, education, advocacy and workshops regarding gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation. Beck works closely with families, school boards, resource and health centres to provide education and support around social transitioning, gender diversity and sexual orientation.

MAY FAIR UPDATE – requesting donations of surprise jars, toys & books

The May Fair is requesting donations of surprise jars, gently used toys and books.  Surprise jars are used as prizes for the kids games.  Toys and books will be for sale.

PARENT COUNCIL MEETING – WEDNESDAY, MAY 11TH AT 7:00PM

The next parent council meeting will take place on Wednesday, MAY 11th at 7:00pm in the library of Manor Park Public School.
